Dinner at Gilda's Club

January 28, 2010

On Thursday, January 28, 2010, LAP members hosted a dinner for 35 members of Gilda's Club and there friends and family.  Student members from Sullivan University contributed to the event. The "taste of Italy" meal was a success and the LAP members enjoyed talking to the folks at Gilda's Club, a place for people living with cancer to laugh, love and live.

Pictures coming soon.

Picture Your Pets With Santa

December 5, 2009

On Saturday, December 5, 2009, LAP members participated in the Kentucky Humane Society’s “Picture Your Pets With Santa” event at the Feeders Supply store in the Holiday Manor Shopping Center. Owners brought in pets of all kinds for a professional portrait with Santa. This was a fun event and a great way to support the KHS.

The volunteers didn’t let the job descriptions scare them away.  It was a day full of laughs and snuggles with friendly animals.  Being a part of making someone's holiday special before the madness of the season got started was great.  The proceeds of this event went to the Kentucky Humane Society

Adopt-A-Meal at Ronald McDonald House
October 29, 2009

Several LAP members served the residents of the Ronald McDonald House food that was prepared and/or donated by many members of the LAP.  Special thanks to the members who could not donate time but generously helped feed the 75 residents of the house.  The Sullivan University Student Paralegal Association donated beautiful cupcakes that everyone enjoyed.

Light the Night 2009

10-2-09

On Saturday, October 2, 2009, LAP Volunteers worked the Team Tents at the Light the Night walk. LAP members, Tennia Hill, Christina Howard, Jessica Oswalt, Janice Howard and Loretta Germany worked with the teams who had raised more than $10,000 for the cause.  The demand for the lighted balloons was so great that Janice and Loretta spent most of the evening lending a hand in the balloon tent. TeAsiah Partridge, Tennia Hill's daughter, was also a big help.  It never hurts to introduce young people to the rewards of volunteerism.  The Light the Night walk has become an annual event for LAP members and their families.

Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's Walk09 to Cure Diabetes

9-12-09

On Saturday, September 12, LAP volunteers participated in the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's Walk09 to Cure Diabetes at Churchill Downs.  Colleen Shields, Jennifer Ferguson and Stephanie Jones registered teams and walkers and accepted donations for the JDRF.  Once the walk began, the ladies helped at the A&W Root Beer station in the infield.  A&W offered free Diet Root Beer floats with vanilla ice cream to all participants.  The event was very well attended and one of the best organized that LAP experienced.  This worthy cause will definitely be on the LAP agenda for next year.  We hope to see more LAP volunteers in 2010.  Look for the Volunteer spotlight on Colleen Shields in Para*Graphs.
ST. BALDRICK'S EVENT AT FOURTH STREET LIVE

On Sunday, March 15, 2009, LAP volunteers participated in the St. Baldrick’s Event at Fourth Street Live. Volunteers were Stephanie Jones, Lea Parrott and Melissa Reynolds, who helped direct the “shavees” through the registration area. These “shavees” collected donations from their family and friends and then took the stage to have their heads shaved in solidarity of children with cancer. It was so inspiring to see not only men, but also children and women with long, beautiful hair stepping up to the stage to selflessly support this cause.

KENTUCKY DERBY FESTIVAL "THEY'RE OFF" LUNCHEON

On Thursday, April 16, 2009, LAP members volunteered for the Kentucky Derby Festival’s 53rd Annual “They’re Off” Luncheon. First held in 1957, the Luncheon serves as the time-honored kickoff to each year’s Derby Festival. Together with other KDF volunteers, LAP volunteers assembled gift bags at the Galt House for the Derby Festival supporters and patrons who would attend the Luncheon in the Grand Ballroom the following day.
